Teaching Philosophy

Teaching requires motivating and challenging students to face their futures with confidence. A  well-educated person uses many thinking processes; no longer can learners be satisfied with recognizing and remembering a set of basic facts. Social studies coursework provides students with an opportunity to dive into the world around them, exploring the issues, facts, and people who shape the world. Effective teachers, knowing each child responds differently, incorporate varied teaching strategies in the classroom for maximum success. Texts, lesson plans, and standards-based assessments lay the groundwork over which multiple intelligences strategies are layered, ensuring deep learning takes place. Using a combination of traditional and digital resources, students' skills grow while working both individually and in teams to deconstruct text and graphics, communicate ideas, problem-solve, and become the next generation of global citizens and 21st Century leaders. Learning possibilities are endless, as students make powerful real-world applications and connections.
