In Their Own Words

Reflections, letters, and cards from students spur my passion to be the best instructor               I can be, and to inspire students to be their best selves.

Dear

Mrs. Rose...

“This class has taught me a lot this year.  One important thing is how to be a global citizen. You have to go out and make a difference for the good of the earth and its inhabitants.”   Tim

“AP Human Geography definitely opened my mind to what’s out there.”   Bella

“Hi Mrs. Rose! I just wanted to let you know I have decided to double major in Sustainable Development and Geography! I have been loving my geography courses so much at Appalachian, and the program and professors in the department make it an even better academic experience. I wanted to thank you for laying such a great foundation for me with the subject, I find myself using concepts from your class (it’s amazing what sticks in your mind when you like what you learn!) nearly every single class session."   Lydia

“Human Geography and all of Mrs. Rose’s activities brought out my creative side.”   Lea

“I wanted to thank you for having us do the Sustainable Development Goal Advocacy Letter. Because of the letter I wrote, I have had so many opportunities to share my story and inspire other people to share their stories and give back. That project has changed my life and I will never forget your class." Kaitlin

"Thank you for a wonderful year. You never failed to make class interesting, and always pushed me to be my best self." Caleb

"I am practicing for my SAT tomorrow and I just wanted to mention something that came up a lot when I was studying. In the reading portion of the practice tests I noticed that a good number of the passages in the 8 tests I took had to do with Geography and featured many terms I learned in HUG. I was really able to understand the content much better because of your class and I just wanted to mention that in case your new classes give you any grief about the importance of geography. (Not that you didn't convince us of that last year! haha)"   Shivani

“Learning about current events helps me with understanding the world. Just like Malala, I believe one person can make a difference.”   Kevin

“I feel incredibly proud of the work I did this year. The amount of time and effort that was put into the FRQ process was great, and I liked applying my new knowledge into the essays.”   Hazel

“Oh my goodness, I earned the college credit! Thank you so much Mrs. Rose, for all your support on making sure every student does their very best!!! I have definitely see HUG RLEs everywhere I go now!"  Vivian

“I think that the level of work this year was just right. By the end of each assignment I felt smart about the topic.”   Aaron

“When I first started writing at the beginning of the year, my paragraphs were skim, bare, and straight to the point. But now I have references, evidence, and topic sentences.”   JC
